The person behind the work

Hands-on from first conversation to final detail.

I have spent my career learning how organisations really work: the decisions people make, the information they rely on and the workarounds they invent when their software falls short.

My roles have ranged from developer and technical lead to solution architect and consultant. I still prefer to stay close to the work—asking questions, shaping the design, writing the software and refining it with the people who will use it.

That continuity matters. It keeps the original business problem visible throughout the project and helps turn complicated requirements into software that feels clear and natural in daily use.

What experience brings

A broad perspective, applied to your particular problem.

40+

Years in software

Designing and delivering business systems through many generations of technology—without losing sight of the people and processes they support.

End to end

One connected view

Experience spanning discovery, requirements, architecture, databases, development, integration, migration, testing, delivery and support.

Many sectors

Patterns—and differences

Work across government, insurance, financial services, energy, transport, loyalty and tourism has built a strong instinct for what can be reused and what must be tailored.

How I work

Practical principles, not a prescribed package.

The technology should serve the solution. The solution should serve the business.

01

Understand before designing

The first task is to understand the real workflow, including the exceptions and informal knowledge that rarely appear in a specification.

02

Simplify the complicated

Good design removes unnecessary steps and makes important information easier to find, trust and act on.

03

Choose what fits

I favour proven, maintainable tools that suit the problem—not technology chosen for novelty or fashion.

04

Stay accountable

Careful analysis only matters when it leads to reliable delivery. Detail, testing and clear communication are part of the work.

A career built around useful systems

Technology has changed. The purpose has not.

I began developing commercial software in the 1980s and have worked in New Zealand since 1990. Since then I have led development teams, designed enterprise solutions and built custom applications for organisations large and small.

The work has included replacing mainframe processes, designing complex database and workflow systems, recovering difficult data migrations, integrating enterprise platforms and, more recently, building on Microsoft Dynamics 365, Dataverse and the Power Platform.

Across that variety, the most satisfying projects share one trait: a difficult operational problem becomes a system that people can understand and rely on. QicSoluciens brings that experience directly to businesses that need software shaped around the way they work.

Breadth of experience

Organisations, projects and technologies.

My work ranges from focused custom applications to large enterprise programmes, delivered directly for businesses and alongside established technology teams.
